Converting time between Canada and India

Canada covers 6 time zones. When Vancouver is starting the working day, St. John's is already 4.5 hours further into it — which is why "Canadian time" on its own is never enough to book a call. Pick the city, not the country.

Use the converter above to go from any Canadian city to India, on any date.

The time difference between Canada and India

India is currently ahead of Canada by between 8 and 12.5 hours, depending on which Canadian city you mean — 8 from St. John's, 12.5 from Vancouver. Note the 30-minute offset: India Time is not a whole number of hours from UTC, so the difference to anywhere else ends in :30 as well.

India does not change its clocks and Canada does, so the gap moves by an hour twice a year — the offset you used in January is wrong in July.

Both directions matter in practice. A 9:00 AM start in Mumbai is 11:30 PM the previous day in Toronto, and 5:00 PM in Toronto is 2:30 AM the next day in Mumbai — so the workable overlap is narrow, and it is the ends of the day that give. Every conversion linked below opens with an hour-by-hour table marking the hours that are working hours in both cities.

Offsets in that table are standard (winter) time. It lists one row per zone in the time zone database, which is why a name can appear twice — the second row is the region that keeps the same clock but sits out daylight saving. Most of Canada changes its clocks, but Whitehorse (Yukon Time), Saskatoon (Central Time), Atikokan (Eastern Time), Blanc-Sablon (Atlantic Time) do not — so the gap to the rest of the country moves by an hour for part of the year.

Daylight saving in Canada

Clocks in the parts of Canada that observe it go forward on 8 March 2026 and back on 1 November 2026. The converter applies the rule for the date you enter, so a meeting booked either side of those dates gets the offset that will actually be in force.

This is where hand-converted times fail. An offset you memorised in January is wrong in July, and the two ends of a call rarely change their clocks on the same weekend — for a few weeks each spring and autumn the usual gap is an hour off in one direction.

How to convert Canada time to India time

  1. Enter the date and time you have in the left slot and pick the city it belongs to.
  2. Pick the city you're converting to in the right slot.
  3. Read the result — including the date, which is often not the same day.
  4. Share the link so everyone on the call sees the same conversion instead of re-deriving it.

Converting India to Canada works the same way — put the Indian city in the left slot instead. The page is the same one either direction; only the order of the two cities changes.

Canada and India time zone FAQ

How many time zones does Canada have?

Canada has 6 time zones: Pacific Time, Mountain Time, Central Time, Eastern Time, Atlantic Time, Newfoundland Time. They run from UTC−8 in Vancouver to UTC−3:30 in St. John's at standard time.

Does Canada observe daylight saving time?

Mostly. Whitehorse, Saskatoon, Atikokan, Blanc-Sablon stay on standard time all year while the rest of Canada changes its clocks.

What is the time difference between Canada and India?

It depends on the Canadian city. India is currently 8 hours ahead of St. John's and 12.5 hours ahead of Vancouver. The gap shifts by an hour around daylight-saving changes, so convert the exact date rather than reusing the number.

Does India observe daylight saving time?

No. India stays on IST (UTC+5:30) all year, so the gap to Canada changes when Canada changes its clocks, not when India does.

What time is it in Canada when it's 9 AM in India?

Does the converter handle the date change?

Yes. Converting between Canada and India frequently lands on the previous or next day, and the result shows the date alongside the time so that is never a surprise.
